During my final M.Sc. year in mechanical engineering at Politecnico di Milano I had the opportunity to develop my master thesis at the Intelligent Manipulation Lab at the University of Lincoln, from September 2021 through February 2022.

I am extremely grateful for these months because not only have I been able to develop a thesis on extremely interesting topics such as robotic manipulation and artificial intelligence, but I have also been able to closely observe the work of a research group in an academic environment.
IML is in fact a very integrated group, where master students, PhD students and post-docs work on different projects, but always with an eye to collaboration and sharing experiences.

This atmosphere allowed me to get a more concrete idea of the world of research, particularly academic research, and to have experiences that I would not have imagined before joining, such as collaborating on the publication of a paper, attending an interview for a potential new member of the group or reviewing a paper.
Looking back at how I changed during this period, I see that this experience has given me a lot, not only in terms of practical knowledge, which is obviously important, but mainly in terms of experience and self-confidence.

I had the pleasure to be part of the Intelligent Manipulation Lab during my last year of Automation and Control Engineering studies at Politecnico di Milano, as I had the chance to join to work on my master's thesis. In particular, I spent six months with them in Lincoln from September 2022 to March 2023.

During this time, I had the possibility to work on interesting topics, such as robotics and AI, collaborating with an experienced academic research group. I was surprised at how supportive they were, as they helped me grow not only as an an engineer or a researcher, but as a person. After this period, I bring home the experience of working in their field, a bigger knowledge in agri-robotics, skills in programming, and the certainty that if you are passionate about what you are doing and you have the blessing of being guided, you can only gain plenty.
I am extremely thankful for these months, and I wish to see the IML team achieve even more.
