Breast Cancer Examination Robot

Early breast cancer detection has a significant impact on extending survival and improving quality of life. Young women with breast cancer account for 7% of all breast cancers. Diagnostic delays are common and they present often at an advanced stage, with the more aggressive and less responsive disease to hormonal therapy.
The Advanced Robotic breasT ExaMination Intelligen System (ARTEMIS) project aims at developing an intelligent robotic system that will help early breast cancer detection. We will develop intelligent algorithms and soft robotic system for this project. ARTEMIS is a collaborative 1-year project, which is funded by Cancer Research UK. Partners in this project include the University of Lincoln, University of Bristol, University of Bradford and Imperial College London.

Deep-learning from demonstrations for strawberry picking

The worldwide demand for agricultural prod-ucts is rapidly increasing due to the growingpopulation, but, in parallel, rural human laborshortage due to different factors is becoming alimit. Moreover, the recent Covid-19 pandemichas shown how possible travel restrictions canlimit the affluence of seasonal farmworkers. Thismeans that the agricultural chain is still stronglydependent on human labor, which is very riskyin the current era. The automation of agricul-ture can be the solution to tackle the increasingload on farming businesses. Despite several at-tempts to develop a robotic solution for harvest-ing strawberries and other crops, a fully viablecommercial robotic system has yet to be estab-lished. This thesis deals with some main prob-lems for the development of a strawberry har-vesting robotic technology: ready-to-be-pickedstrawberries detection, fruit weight estimationbefore picking, and path planning from visualinformation to reach the target fruit.
